Finding local food support

Feed Nova Scotia

Feed Nova Scotia has a big job to do: They're trying  to ensure that all Nova Scotians have access to nutritious food on a consistent basis. But Feed Nova Scotia also works to address the larger issues behind food insecurity.

A Stack of Cans That Say "Give" From Feed Nova Scotia
  • one in seven households tackle food insecurity (usually defined by issues around affordability or access to nutritious food on a consistent basis);
  • one in five children live in poverty; and
  • one in three people who use the food bank are children.

The numbers around children are particularly troubling. Kids who don’t get a decent breakfast have more trouble concentrating in school. Students whose families struggle to make ends meet are less likely to pursue costly post secondary education. The odds are stacked against these kids, at no fault of their own.

It is a privilege and honour to help Feed Nova Scotia raise awareness of these challenging truths. And it’s our sincere hope that it moves those who are able to give of their time, money, and other resources to join the movement to end hunger once and for all.
